SSFR is administered by a Board of Directors made up of the State representatives, Employers and Workers. Everyday management is held by a General Director appointed by the Prime Minister.

The principal activities of the SSFR are:
- Collecting and managing contributions as determined by Law;
- Providing funds to the beneficiaries;
- Carrying out investment;
- Sensitizing people on sustainable social security;
- Examining ways of extending social security;
- Providing advice to government on matters relating to social security;
- Establishing relations and collaborating with other regional or international institutions carrying out similar missions
